Games I'm Looking Forward to in the Month of September

1)   Virginia Tech vs. Boise State (September 6th) For the past few season Boise State has looked like a serious BCS Bowl Bid Contender. The Broncos return 18 starters and should be poised to make another undefeated run this year. They never get enough respect, but if they beat Virginia Tech it’ll be the talk of the entire season. My Pick: Boise State over VT

2)   Miami at Ohio State (September 11th) Ever since OSU beat Mimi with that questionable call back in ’02 I’ve been waiting for a rematch. This game is a HUGE momentum builder for whoever wins but I believe a win is more important for the ‘Canes, who are still in search of their SWAGGER again. This game will be fun. I pick Miami in a close one.

3)   Florida State at Oklahoma (September 11th) This game is on my schedule because 2010is when the “rebirth” of FSU happens. It’ll be a treat to watch these two high-powered offenses go back and forth, however I just don’t think FSU will have enough in the tank to pull off the upset. Oklahoma over Florida State.

4)   Michigan at Notre Dame (September 11th) These teams are in similar spots right now. Both are undergoing a transformation and an early win against one of your biggest rivals sure would build momentum. The Wolverines won a close one in ’09 and I think this matchup will be tight again this year. The Big Blue over the Irish.

5)   Nebraska at Washington (September 18th) This game is on my list because there’s a lot of talk about Washington’s Jake Locker. The kid’s got a real strong arm and some believe he’s a number 1 pick in next year’s NFL draft. Washington went 5-7 last season but they return most of their starters. I have high expectations for the Cornhuskers this year but I think they slip up on this road trip. Washington over Nebraska.

SEC Notes

In a late, last minute move I decided to make my 2010 Predictions for the SEC. See, living out here in the Midwest I don’t get much TV exposure to all the teams in the South Eastern Conference. But like my buddy Mike V always says, “You can’t be a legit football analyst unless you cover the best conference in college football,” and he’s right.

I wanted to make some quick notes about this conference though…

Alabama is Number 1 in the AP for a reason; they kicked ass last season and are the defending NATIONAL CHAMPIONS. Now with that said, even though ‘Bama will start the season #1 I don’t believe they’ll repeat this feat. Call me crazy, but I think Arkansas could really shock the world this season. Ryan Mallett is a freak of nature and as long as he stays healthy I like the Razorbacks’ chances out in the SEC West. The reason I am not so high on Alabama is because of the simple fact that it’s defense only returns 2 starters. Sure, Saban is a great coach, but playing in a competitive conference such as the SEC I believe the lack of experience on this side of the ball could really hurt their chances of repeating.

Out in the East, I like Georgia’s chances to contend for the SEC crown. This team returns 10 on offense and while they lose signal caller Joe Cox, the playmakers on this team will take the pressure off of Aaron Murray. Last year the DAWGS were second in total offense (in the East) behind Florida. The Gators are always deadly however there are a lot of holes to fill on this roster, especially at QB with the loss of Tim Tebow. And don’t sleep on South Carolina this year either! The Gamecocks return the most starters in the East and are more than capable of running the tables this season.
